James Irvine to Miner’s Ridge is one of the more popular Prairie Creek hikes, as it is easy and close to the Visitor Center. On this route you cross the park’s main divide, from the Prairie Creek watershed to the Pacific slope, without even noticing. The route initially follows Godwood Creek, with a recent upslope re-route, then gradually ascends Miner’s Ridge for the return leg. I’ve tacked on a little extra summer loop at the end. The scenery is mostly mature redwood forest, with patches of hemlock and spruce.
