John Vollmar

Is the founder and principal ecologist for Vollmar Natural Lands Consulting, Inc (VNLC). He graduated from UC Berkeley in 1990 with a B.S. in Integrative Biology. He has more than 30 years’ professional research and consulting experience. Way back in the early 1990s, while working for BioSystems Analysis and later for John Garcia at Garcia and Associates, he encountered vernal pools on various projects in the Great Valley. He founded VNLC in 1997 and, in 1998, began a partnership with the East Merced Resource Conservation District to develop and implement a ‘vernal pool conservation and outreach program’, initially funded by USEPA. Through this work, he discovered the beauty of vast, intact Great Valley vernal pool landscapes and has worked to help conserve them ever since. Mr. Vollmar was the lead author of this guide.
