Hello! Welcome to Backcountry Press. We’re Allison and Michael, a wife-husband team on a mission to enhance the human connection with the natural world through easy to understand science and direct experience in nature.
We are Nature Nerds, Outdoor Adventurers, Hikers, Botanists, Parents of two littles, Science Teachers, and Environmental Educators who began this small business in 2012 with the publication of our first book, Conifer Country. (Fun fact: This book was also Michael’s thesis for a Master’s degree in Biology from Cal Poly Humboldt!)
We independently publish books that explore natural history, ecology, and the western landscape. We also offer a wide variety of classes, both in person and online, featuring our authors and other experts in their fields.
