“Earlier this year, I was asked to do a painting for a book cover. An amazing book put out by Backcountry Press, edited and authored, along with many other contributors, by Michael Kauffmann and Justin Garwood—The Klamath Mountains: A Natural History.

I framed it and passed that painting along to these two kind, passionate, and knowledgeable friends.

To be able to visually represent their fine book and the mountains that long ago inspired me to be an artist is a high honor.”

This week always feels like the kickoff to Califor

This week always feels like the kickoff to California Desert season to us North Coast Californians.

Over the winter months we’ve loved heading to these stark landscapes to wonder at the diverse plants with their brilliant adaptations for surviving in such harsh places.

North America has 4 major desert regions, 3 of which are included within California: The Mojave, Sonoran, and Great Basin. Find out what makes each desert unique in our latest blog post, which is an excerpt from a book we published just a few months back: California Desert Plants!

🤩 This amazing collection of regional experts (including Michael Kauffmann and Justin Garwood, the book's lead editors) will be guiding hikes into the spectacular and storied Siskiyou Wilderness and offering up evening interpretive programs on Geology, Mammals, Plant Communities, River Ecology, Reptiles & Amphibians, Climate, and (fingers-crossed that it works with scheduling) Condors!

(This really is an exceedingly rare occurrence of so much Klamath Mountains Nature Nerding convening in one beautiful location.)
