I belong to the Tourist Club on Mt. Tam and wanted a portable guide for when I’m hiking and don’t have access to CNPS’ Calscape. Beautiful book, lots of info, and very compact.

This is an informative, handy guide. Good layout and size for holding in your hand on a hike in Marin (and throughout coastal NorCal) and finding the right pic to identify native plants. I’m an amateur botany lover (tho aided by my expert horticulturalist husband) and it is user friendly for me. Good book!

This is a great survey of plant life in the Mt. Tamalpais area, from grasses and wildflowers to trees. The introductory sections on key habitats where different plant communities can be found also provide good a good frame of reference. As one with some basic botanical knowledge but wanting to pursue more, I find this compact book just right for my level. It’s small enough to take along for hikes of any length, and should prove applicable elsewhere in northern California at least, and probably beyond.
