A time of rejuvenation

With the shift of the California Current, rains begin to fall in Humboldt County after a summer without. This rejuvenating moisture super-charges the landscape and the living world responds in wonderful ways. While humans often retreat inside our homes, native plants and animals adjust to the changes. Some birds migrate, mammals might hibernate, and some plants shed their leaves and “hibernate” for winter in their own way. We, at Backcountry Press, encourage you to get out and connect with the natural world this fall. Here are some of the Best Fall Hikes and some of the lifeforms that can be found.

A few of our favorite fall hikes in Humboldt

See the Bigleaf Maples Blaze Yellow at Trillium Falls

This hike includes some of the best redwood groves in RNP and, in the fall, offers the grandeur of the tallest trees and Earth and the stunning colors of one of our best deciduous trees as well.
